Credit counseling

Since 2005, every debtor filing bankruptcy in Houston under Chapter 7 or under Chapter 13 is required to attend a credit counseling course. This course may be attended in person, online, or via telephone. The requirement is found in 11 USC Section 108(h). Once you complete the credit counseling course, you are provided with a certificate of credit counseling that must be filed with the bankruptcy court.

The credit counseling must be made during the 180 day period prior to filing bankruptcy. Recent amendments allow a person to take the course on the same day of filing.
