Municipalities that have filed bankruptcy

If you thought bankruptcies were limited to people and businesses, think again. Municipal bankruptcies are also included in the categories of bankruptcies. So when a municipality cannot pay its debts, usually they can and do file Chapter 9 bankruptcy. The following is a list of municipalities who have filed bankruptcy

  • Orange County, California in 1994

  • Prichard, Alabama in 1999
